Vaca in a Jar

July 23rd, 2013 Glass Jars, Home Projects

Okay, I have to admit I'm a bit of a pack rat. This can be bad and good....bad = extra clutter which makes it hard to organize the house; good = plenty of supplies for craft projects!

So my next project is to make a vacation memory jar which I saw Martha Stewart's idea HERE. Because of my hoarding tendencies, I was able to find just the right jar. The square shape is a bonus.

Call me strange but I kinda like peeling off the labels from jars (I know someone out there does too!). Normally I'll get it wet first, then scratch off with my fingernail then use a Magic Eraser. See the black type at the bottom? It's easily removed with the Magic Eraser.

Back in June we had our first family beach vacation and luckily my mom remembered to grab some sand before we left. I also found these super old labels (do they even make these anymore?).

Harrison dug through the box of shells to pick out a few for the jar.

And it's done! I found a home for it by the window in the kitchen so when I'm scrubbing dishing I can image my feet are buried in sand :)

Harrison created this jar all by himself (except for the location and date)! He painted the lid blue like the ocean and yellow underneath for the sun. If you look closely you'll see a smiling face with a check and a sad face with an "X". He told me wanted to make one for his room because he likes a lot of stuff in there. My future pack rat???!!!

Such a cute idea! I really love his happy/sad faces.

Glass jars are my hoarder thing too! I have more of them than my Grandma had sour cream containers! Glass jars are handy in so many ways.

Awesome idea…I love to collect shells and sand from every beach I visit, and this would be a great way to display them.
